A demolition permit was filed for the 20-year-old DisneyQuest attraction at #Disney Springs in Disney World near Orlando, Florida, a report by the Orlando Sentinel says. The arcade space closed July 2.
The report says the permit was filed after the D23 official Disney fanclub expo in Anaheim, California, July 14-16. The report says the building will be gradually demolished and interior work was already begun.
The company revealed plans to close DisneyQuest in 2015 to make way for a new attraction, The NBA Experience. The NBA-themed attraction is an immersive video production with a restaurant and retail store, the company says.
Former employees and fans of the arcade have been going to the attraction before it closes, the report says. Jess Hess, who has been employed at the arcade since its opening in 1998, told the Orlando Sentinel that people are “literally coming to say goodbye to us.”
“And there are cast members who have work here in the past who are coming,” she said in the report. “There are cast members that spent a couple of months of their life in this building, but it meant so much to them that they’re coming back to say goodbye.”
Other new attractions coming to Disney parks include a Tron ride at the #Magic Kingdom, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, a Guardians of the Galaxy ride and a Ratatouille-themed ride in Paris, France.
