Disney First Look at “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge”

The long-teased “Star Wars Land” at has officially received a name: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Currently under construction at the and Walt Disney World Resorts, chairman Bob Chapek announced the name over the weekend and shared details about the upcoming attraction that opens in 2019.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is supposed to be a remote trading port on the edge of wild space, where Star Wars characters and their stories “come to life — and where guests will find themselves in the middle of the action,” said a press release.

There will be two major attractions at the Star Wars-themed area, which puts guests in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. One puts you on a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay, which is built on a scale we’ve never done before. The second attraction will give guests the opportunity to fly the Millenium Falcon, piloting the ship, shooting blasters or preparing for hyperspace.

Guests will also encounter many familiar faces inside the Star Wars universe, including BB-8, Chewbacca, members of the First Order.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens 2019, first at the Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., before later opening at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl.
